McDonald’s

McDonald's Signage

CARTERSVILLE
Site and building
Begun on 7/03/01, completed on 9/26/01

We were involved in submitting one of McDonald’s Cartersville restaurants for review. We worked with their site engineer to get DOT approval. It was necessary to go for a variance for landscape buffers and the proposed driveway was too close to the intersection. We assisted McDonald’s with publishing their application for variance and informing the adjacent property owners of the upcoming hearing. We made a good impression on their corporate neighbor, Interface Corporation, who was very interested in what was taking place next to them. We suggested that McDonald’s speak to their real estate representative about a shared driveway,
which worked out to everyone’s mutual satisfaction.

DOUGLASVILLE
Site and building
Begun 1/31/01; completed on 3/30/01

At the initial submission of this project, Douglas County
officials brought it to our attention that no lollipop sign would be allowed at
this project. This was a very important issue and we brought it to the
attention of the project manager as soon as we left the meeting. There were also problems
with the State DOT on this project and we worked closely with DOT and the site
engineer to resolve them.

NORTHSIDE DRIVE
Site and building
Begun 9/25/00; completed 1/17/01

This is McDonald’s oldest site in Atlanta and it had some non-conforming conditions that had to be
addressed. There were zoning issues to be researched initially. Negotiation was required with the arborist because the site was small and difficult to modify. The prototype was two story, which required consultation with the Fire Marshal.

MALL OF GEORGIA
Site and building
Begun
9/1999; completed 1/2000

McDonald’s had a large
parcel at Mall of Georgia and had purchased with the intent to subdivide and
sell the additional property.

However, when they went in to the county to apply for the plat subdivision, the county told them they were
only entitled to one driveway. In order to subdivide, they must have two.

We were currently involved in permitting the rest of the job, so they asked us to investigate.

Our first step was to contact the state DOT to find out what their position on the second drive was,
since it opened onto a state highway. We were told by State DOT that all parcels at Mall of Georgia had been assigned a specific number of driveways on the master plan and that McDonald’s was entitled to two.

This research, which we provided to the Director of Development at Gwinnett, enabled them to file for
subdivsion and subsequently sell the property. The McDonald’s project manager won “Project Manager of the Year”, a nationwide award, for this project.

We have worked on many other McDonald’s that are not mentioned here.
